RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5 Episode 9: ‘Drama Queens’ Review

Warning: This post contains spoilers. I recommend reading after you’ve watched the episode!

After the elimination of Ivy Winters, there was a lot of tension between Alyssa Edwards and Coco Montrese — nothing we’ve never seen before! There was a full-blown argument between them, and Jinkx Monsoon also got involved with a feud with Coco.

Entering the workroom the next morning, the mini challenge was announced as The Crying Game — the girls must cry on cue! The girls sat in the sharing circle and made up dramatic stories that made them fake cry. Alyssa and Detox won (Detox shared a true story about the death of her ex-boyfriend) making them team captains for the main challenge.

The main challenge was to perform in two telenovelas. Detox’s team was Roxxxy Andrews, Alaska and Alyssa’s team was Jinkx Monsoom and Coco Montrese — awkward! Ru visited Team Alyssa and seemed sceptical as they were unsure of their lines, and Team Detox came across badly as Ru was aware of their team’s clique.

As Team Detox’s team rehearsed on the set, there were a few timing problems but the rest seemed really funny! The outfits were fabulous and the acting was perfectly over the top! Team Alyssa had a few problems with Alyssa’s orgasm (literally!) which was a little awkward to watch. Coco was a little distracted by their co-star Wilmer Valderrama, forgetting her lines a few times!

On the runway, RuPaul — who looked more stunning than usual — was joined by Michelle Visage, Santino Rice, Maria Conchita Alonso and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. My favourite runway looks from the girls were: Jinkx Monsoom, Roxxxy Andrews and Alaska.

Team Detox’s telenovela was very polished and was really funny! However, Team Alyssa’s wasn’t as good — it was impossible to understand anything Alyssa was saying but at least Coco looked stunning!

Detox was critiqued on her sombrero and her lack of presence on the set whereas Roxxxy was complimented on her makeup and performance in the telenovela. Alaska’s runway walk was commended, whereas Alyssa was told she wasn’t understandable in the challenge and Santino told her she was wearing that worst dress he had ever seen. Jinkx shocked everyone with her outfit but they loved it and she was told she did the best orgasm! Finally, Coco was told the judges were left wanting more.

Jinkx Monsoon was announced as the winner of this week’s challenge, whereas Alyssa Edwards and Coco Montrese were put in the bottom two.

This is the lip-sync we have all been waiting for! To the song Paula Abdul – Cold Hearted both queens pulled it out! The battle was flawless, however Alyssa Edwards was asked to sashay away…

I can’t believe this is the end Coco vs Alyssa!

  1. The lipsynch was certainly flawless but I’m glad Alyssa vs Coco is finally over..unless Ru decides to bring back an eliminated queen..
